SYNTHESIS OF A PROMISING PHARMACEUTICAL AGENT 3-([4-CHLORO-3(TRIFLUOROMETHYL) PHENYL] AMINO)-5-HYDROXY-2-METHYL-1, 4-DIHYDRONAPTHALENE-1, 4-DIONE
The present invention relates to a promising lead molecule for anticancer drug therapy which has been proved by in silico and in vitro studies. Plumbagin, a naphthoquinone which is of great medicinal value has been isolated from the said plant and is structurally modified by incorporating a fluoro substituent. The rationale behind the selection and incorporation of fluorine-containing moiety is that fluorine-containing compounds are presently used as anticancer drugs. We have also successfully established a synthetic route to synthesize the aforesaid compound and its structure was confirmed by various analytical means. The compound has been patented in the name of the College of Engineering Trivandrum. The newly synthesized compound was subjected to in vitro screening in various cancer cells lines like Melanoma, Colon and Lymphoma. Repeated studies revealed that the patented compound exhibited enhanced activity and had better activity when compared to the currently employed standard drug (Cyclophosphamide) in Lymphoma.
