Department of Computer Applications

The Department of Computer Applications was started in the year 1986 under the initiative of the Department of Electronics, Government of India. The department offers three-year full-time MCA program, which focuses on providing sound theoretical background as well as a good practical exposure to the students in the relevant areas. It constantly keeps its individuals in track with state-of-the art computer technologies and is dedicated in providing a cutting-edge, industry oriented education in applied computer science. It aims at producing individuals, who can successfully meet the rigorous demands of the Information Age. It aids scholars to evolve academic strategies and work toward academic goals rooted in human value for knowledge-based achievements in Information Technology.

 

The MCA programme is a three year full time post graduate course comprising of six semesters. The sixth semester is completely dedicated for an industry project. The MCA programme has current annual intake of 60 students. The MCA programme is currently affiliated to Kerala University. From 2016 admission onwards, the MCA programme will be affiliated to A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University.

 

The department is credited with the development of campus automation software “CampuSoft” which is currently running in the campus. The software supports activities like attendance monitoring, student records management and the complete admission process. The department is also credited with the development of software for online processing of M.Tech applications and generating the allotment list. The M.Tech admissions have been conducted using this software during the last six years. The students of the department have also developed software applications for various government departments and agencies like Information Kerala Mission, IT@school, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology etc. The software for online transfer and posting of school teachers was done with the help of software developed by the students of the MCA department.

The department also undertakes consultancy and software development activities for industry and other institutions. The department has provided consultancy support to more than ten institutions.

 

The Department has formed an association of students named ‘Association of Students of Computer Applications (ASCA)’. It aims to motivate the students to enhance their software development skills, soft skills, personality development etc.
