The testing centre of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been started in 1977. Later the lab was accredited by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It is also accredited by NABL on 23/12/2010. The lab has the facility of doing all type tests as per IS 13010-2002 and 13779-1999.

Lab has also facility for testing LT porcelain stray insulators as per IS 5300-1969 and its latest amendments. The following acceptance tests were done.
HT withstand tests Normal (dry) 3kV rms for 1 min.

The lab has also the facility to do 11 kV composite disc insulators as per IEC 61150, 11 kV porcelain pin insulators and LT porcelain shackle insulators as per IS 1445-1997 and its latest amendments.
The lab has also facility for doing test for lightning arrestors as per IS 3070 (Part-3)-1993 and its latest amendments. Acceptance tests for 11 kV, 400 A, Air blast switches (AB) as per IS 9920/9921-1985 and its latest amendments are also carried out.

2. HT withstand tests (dry) between poles (switch open) 45 kV rms

Fluorescent tubes, sodium vapour lamp, mercury vapour lamp, incandescent lamp, LED lamp, CFL lamp, automatic LED street light, automatic CFL street light are also tested.
AC arc welding plants, three phase induction motors, automotive batteries, generators (diesel, petrol and gas), UPS etc. Calibration of HV transformers of various ratings and oil test kits can also be done on this lab.
