Seventy years ago on 3rd of July, 1939, the College of Engineering, Trivandrum(CET) formally came into existence. This Government Institution owes its foundation to the bold and inspired vision of His Highness Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma the Maharaja of Travancore. The institution has grown and expanded steadily, so much so that today it is not only the largest engineering college in Kerala, but one of the biggest in the country. The institution runs 8 UG programmes (B.Tech. in Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg., Electrical Engg., Electronics and Communication Engg., Computer Science and Engg., Applied Electronics and Instrum entation, Architecture and Industrial Engg.) and 19 PG programmes (including MCA and MBA). The institution also conducts evening courses in B.Tech. M.Tech and MBA for the working professionals. It is the institution with m aximum number of courses accredited by the National Board of Accreditation of AICTE in the country(all the undergraduate courses and all
eligible post graduate courses of the institution are accredited).
The CET is also extending its facilities to national level institutions such as IIST, IISER and sister institutions in conducting their programmes. The proposed Centre for Engineering Research and Development being established by the government will be housed in the institution. The CET is completing 70 years of its existence and excellence in imparting technical education. An year long set of activities are planned as a part of the 70th anniversary celebrations which gets inaugurated on 28th July 2009 at 3.00 pm.
